Originally organized by Sentio. 🧠 Sentio Sentio is building the digital minds field in London & beyond. We host the Sentio Series - fortnightly London events that combine a talk, Q&A, and networking. Talks explore empirical, governance and moral questions in areas such as AI consciousness, sentience, agency, and welfare. A home for those working on or interested in digital minds to gather regularly. 🎙️ Overview Today’s AIs sometimes talk as though they have feelings. But should we care about AI emotions? In this talk, Caspar will show how models’ internal emotional states influence their choices and behaviour. He will discuss what this can tell us about whether things can go well or badly for today's AIs, and why these findings matter for safety. Followed by Q&A and (in-person) networking, with vegan pizza and drinks included. Whether you work in digital minds, are considering it, or are curious from a related field like AI safety, come along! 👤 Speaker Caspar Kaiser is a Research Affiliate at Cambridge Digital Minds, an Associate Professor in Behavioural Science at the University of Warwick, and a research fellow at the University of Oxford's Wellbeing Research Centre. His research focuses on AI sentience, welfare, and the moral psychology of digital minds. He combines experimental methods from economics and psychology with the study of model internals. His earlier work focused on questions of statistical methodology for measuring human wellbeing as well as applied work on its determinants.
